An Important Memoir
This is an important memory because I won my first championship tournament. It was during the C.A.M.B.A Beacon 269 -2006 Chess Tournament.
Before the tournament, I was studying openings, middle games, and end games with my friend Najih, a high rated chess student. Of course I was the best player and the instructor, Mr. Bivens, chose me as his favorite. So I defeated Najih a few times. After that, we were about to start the tournament. It was a few minutes before nine o’clock. The tournament started at nine o’clock. I put my game face on.
It was a small crowd. People were playing at the same time, meaning that 5 games could be playing at once. My first opponent was a female. I thought that it was such a drag. Fortunately, I defeated her without hesitation. She wasn’t as much of a skillful player as I was. The chess instructor was checking the chess notation. He turned out to be impressed by my quick checkmate. The length of the game was 10 moves. I defeated her by checkmating her with my queen with my bishop protecting it. It was quite an easy game for me, it is just like I said she was a weak opponent. Her chess game rate was 462. My rate was 1028 at that time because I was studying my openings, middle games, and end games.
My next game was against a former champion of the school! It was against Charlotte Streeter. I was up for my 1st loss in the tournament. I knew that because she seemed like she was going to cheat because she had a referee on her side. Also, she seemed weak to me, but I played her anyway. She defeated me, and how she cheated! 2 referees helped her with everything move. I couldn’t tell Mr. Bivens because if you walk away a game you will be disqualified. So, I lost and I took it because I knew I couldn’t do anything about so I didn’t care. I was preparing for my next game.
My next opponent was against another champion, which was a drag because he defeated me before and I was obliterated. This time I had the upper hand. But, this time was totally different this time. This time he was obliterated and shattered into pieces! That was his first loss.
My next 2 games were easy they were against poor players rated in 300's. After those easy victories. It was time to crown the champions. It turned out to be 4th place. I got $35 as prize money. I was happy that I money and my first trophy.
