The other day, i had detention because i didn’t  sign my reading log. I had to stay after school for thirty minutes and just read. According to Bailey Tuttle, 79% of people thinks detention will not change people. 29% of students think it would. Detention should be banned from all schools because it waste students time  just sitting there and staying quiet.

            Retaining students after school is just a waste of time because they have better things to do after school rather than stay for detention. Bailey Tuttle, says “All you do is sit there for an hour and the teachers give you an hour of lecture that you won’t even remember.” She also says “ Detention is not a good punishment because some students don’t take it serious. Detention just doesn’t change the way students act. They are more likely to end up making the same mistake.

            Students need to be home at a certain time for safety reasons. A students in Bailey Tuttle’s class says “My mom screamed at me because i came home late and she was worried about me.” “I had to explain what happened.” The mother of the girl says “ My child needs to be home at a certain time because if not I’ll go looking for her.” Parents have a good point about their children being home at a certain time because anything can happen. Detention just causes children to be late, and it is especially dangerous for students who live in a dangerous areas.

             Some people may argue with my opinion because they think detention is a good punishment for students. They might think detention is a good punishment for students because we hate it. Those people are absolutely wrong because sitting in a chair for an hour just waste the time of our social life and homework time. 

            The only solution is detention being banned from all schools because all it does is waste time. Do you want to be spending and extra hour after school? No because one day in detention leads to you being traumatized for the rest of the school year. If you don’t want detention just follow the rules and don’t get on a teachers bad side or you’ll be in school for an extra hour.
