8th Grade Boys Favorite Literature

By Nick

I asked fourteen eighth grade boys some questions about literature. I'll review the results and things I've noticed about them with you. I asked the following questions: "What is your favorite book and why?", "Who is your favorite author and why?", "Is your favorite book in a series?", and "What is your favorite type of book to read?".

The most common answer for favorite book was "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows", it had three votes. The respondents thought it had a lot of action and good plot twists which kept their attention to the end of the book. that was the only book that had at lest three votes. In fact it was the only one with more that one vote from the people that I asked.

For favorite author it was close, but Anthony Horowitz had the most votes at four. They liked the way he wrote the Alex Rider series and how he writes the action in the books. Anthony got four votes, while J.K. Rowling only got three votes. Odd as it may seem, two people who voted for Horowitz have a Harry Potter book listed as their favorite book. Then two of Rowling's voter's favorite books weren't writing by Rowling. They were written by someone else. People who have Rowling as their favorite author thought she has good plots and she writes her books in a way that makes you want to keep reading.

The favorite book of most people was one of a series. I think it's because it's easier to have more and bigger twists in the plot if there is more than one book. This way in the first book or two the author can set up a fun twist to make that book the reader's favorite. Also, you might already start liking the book because it's in a series that you really like. This way if you already like the series the book is in to start with, and if it's well written it can very well become your favorite book.

Last, but not least, was about their favorite type of book to read. The answer for this one didn't vary much at all. Only one person had something other than fantasy, mystery, or action/adventure. I think this is because eighth grade boys like thrillers more than the romantic types of books. The more action packed the better it is, I think.

Form writing this report I have found that eighth grade boys like action packed books that keep them wanting to read to the end. Also, I found this report fun because I found that many of my friends like the same kinds of books that I do.
