The two books “Holes” and “Thank You Ma’am” are both very alike. The theme that I think is closes to both books is you can’t always get what you want.

In the book “Thank You Ma’am,” Roger, the main character is poor, so he tried to steal Mrs. Jones’ purse but failed. He wanted to buy blue suede shoes but doesn’t have money. Because of that, he ended up being “punish” by Mrs. Jones and learned his and “Thank You Ma’am.” For example, Zero ad Roger are quite similar lesson.

In the book “Holes,” Zero and his mom “take” things from stores. Zero didn’t know that it was stealing, so he stole Sweet Feet’s shoes and end up causing Stanley in trouble. Because of that, he regrets it. Since Zero is also poor, he stole shoes again the next day and go caught.

There are many similarities in the book “Holes” They both stoles shoes, are poor, and are both African American. The only difference between then is that Zero got stuck in a juvenile camp and was arrested, but Roger was punished by Mrs. Jones and didn’t get arrested, and he got many good things in return for doing that while Zero was hated and had to dig holes everyday. That is the similarities and differences between “Holes” and “Thank You Ma’am.”

I was also in a situation such as Zero and Roger. I really wanted that cute stuff animal that is very small but my mom won’t buy me it. So I took it and hid it inside my pocket but was caught by my mom. My mom yelled at me for stealing saying that it was bad. I was only 6 back then so I didn’t know much about it. I apologize to the store owner and in the end my mom bought it for me. I regret stealing things and I never steal things again.
