Bad things can lead to positive outcomes

Theme that best fits “Holes” and “Thank you ma’am” is bad things can lead to positive outcomes.

For example, in “Thank you ma’am” the characters are Roger who is a small person and Mrs. Jones who is a much bigger person. This story takes place at eleven o’ clock at night. The boy, Roger wanted to buy new suede shoes so he stole Mrs. Jones purse. But he was caught and dragged to her house. Mrs. Jones didn’t punish Roger instead she gave Roger food to eat, wash his face, and gave him ten dollars. Mrs. Jones decided to forgive Roger for what he had done.

Another similar story is “Holes”, When Zero and Roger had both wanted shoes. Also, they were caught stealing things and Zero was sent to a juvenile area called Camp Green Lake, except Roger was forgiven. This story takes place in Texas where Stanley took a pair of shoes that he thought fell from the sky, Clyde Livingston’s shoes. Taking that pair of shoes that fell from nowhere led Stanley to an area, desolated called Camp Green Lake. But even though he needs to work and dig holes under the hot sun, Stanley grew stronger. He also made a great friendship with Zero. Both friends were able to work together to defeat the Warden and find the loot that had once belonged to Kate Barlow. There was also a positive outcome; the shoes that Stanley took helped his father create a successful invention that emits foot odor.

A text-to-world connection I can make is when you steal things that don’t belong to you there would be punishment, such as that person will go to jail. Like, in the story “Holes” when Zero stole shoes from a store and got caught. He was then given punishment.
