Have you ever wondered how many teens get depressed every day? The amount of depressed teens increases on a daily basis. It is normal for teens to get sad but when it gets out of hand it is called depression. What I mean by when it gets out of hand is that when it happens more than it's supposed to it is getting out of hand. Almost every teen goes through such a stage in their life. When teens get depressed many things come to their mind. Shakira Jose, 11, says "when I get depressed the first thing that comes to my mind is running away but I realize it is not the best solution." According to statistics more than 66% of teens in the United States suffer of depression.
What do teens do when they are depressed???
When teens get depressed they do many things so that they can feel better. According to statistics, one of the most common things teens do is cut or hurt themselves. Maria, 15, says "when I am depressed I think about cutting myself, but instead I start to cry and I feel better."
That is not the only thing they do. When teens get depressed, they may go somewhere where they are alone and could think about is going on and express their feelings. Another common thought which results from depression is running away. There have been many cases in which teenagers have run away because of depression.

Why do teens get depressed???
There are many reasons for a teen to become depressed. Most teens get depressed because they have a secret and can't tell anyone because something might happen to them. Keeping a deep secret can lead to depression. The way it may lead to depression is because you may be hiding it and not telling anyone may hurt you mentally and you may get depressed. For example, a kind of secret that you may be hiding could be if something happened to you like if you got rapped or peered pressured to do something. The loss of a loved one may be another reason for depression. Shakira, 11, says "Something that got me depressed was when my mom passed away. But I realized that I had to let her go."
Last, teens could get depressed if they are being bullied or threatened by someone in school. When someone in school bullies you, you get scared and then depressed.
It's Not Only Teens
Teens are not only ones suffering of depression. Teens as well as adults also get depressed. There is a difference in the way that Teens and adults express their feelings in depression. Adults may get depressed of a much more complicated problem.
For example: they might get depressed because they can't have kids or they might suffer of a drinking or alcoholic problem. Teens may get depressed because they are going trough anger problems or sadness. There's a big difference in the way that a teen and an adult could get depressed.
Kids as well as teens and adults suffer of depression. However they have different reasons of why they get depressed. Kids may get depressed because they have lost their best friend or they had an argument with their parents.
Ways to Fix the Problem
There are many ways for teens to stop depression. The best solution is talking to a person that you trust and you believe in. For example you can talk to your best friend. Another thing that you can do is do something that you enjoy doing like painting, dancing, singing or you can have some time by yourself to think about things.
When you are depressed no matter what age you are you need to do something so you can try to forget about it.
